Morris, Haynes & Hornsby was a proud sponsor of the 13th Annual Garden Art Party benefiting Alzheimer’s of Central Alabama. The event took place on May 8, 2009 at B & A Warehouse. This event was especially meaningful to firm attorney Tommy James whose practice specializes in representing our elderly citizens who have been the victims of neglect, many of whom are Alzheimer’s patients. Attorney James also specializes in helping some of our community’s other vulnerable citizens who have been the victims of wrongdoing such as children and the mentally challenged. Attorney Emily Nelson volunteered at Pathways for two weeks in May as a part of her membership in the Junior League of Birmingham. Pathways is a shelter for homeless women and children whose mission is “ending homelessness for women and children through hospitality, housing and hope.” Attorney Nelson volunteered with two siblings whose mother was receiving job interview training so that she could secure employment to support her family. During her time with the children she had a great time doing arts and crafts, reading stories, watching movies and getting to know the siblings. All of the activities were designed to teach the children valuable lessons about having a good attitude, telling the truth, and setting and attaining goals in life. At the end of the two week session the children received certificates of completion and felt very good about what they had accomplished. Attorney Nelson’s experience with these children is just one example of the good that is being done in our community by great charities such as Pathways and the Junior League of Birmingham.
