A Montgomery County jury has awarded a $2.6 million verdict for the personal injury and wrongful death of a career concrete plant maintenance worker. On May 23, 2025, the jury handed down a plaintiff’s victory in this fiercely contested liability case. Morris Haynes Attorneys at Law partners Jeremy Knowles and Randy Haynes brought the case to a jury following a $100,000 settlement offer from the defense.
Our client, L. E., was performing maintenance on an auger at Shelby Concrete’s east plant in Montgomery, Alabama, on May 27, 2022. L.E. had finished working and was about to get off the plant when Shelby Concrete started a conveyor belt. L.E. was thrown off his feet backwards, hit his head, and suffered a catastrophic brain injury. He was then thrown into the hopper, where he had to be extracted by Montgomery County Fire and Rescue. 2022 E., who was affectionately known by many as “Grandaddy,” lost consciousness shortly after the accident and suffered for 22 days before ultimately passing away on June 18, 2022. He was survived by his wife of 40 years, two children, and four grandchildren. Morris Haynes filed suit to hold Shelby Concrete responsible for this tragic and preventable accident and recover damages for L.E.’s injury and death.
Attorney Jeremy Knowles commended the jury on the verdict: “I am so grateful to the jury for giving justice to the clients and holding Shelby Concrete responsible for this preventable tragedy.” He also praised the family of L.E. for “their courage and strength during this 3-year process.” Attorney Randy Haynes also emphasized the verdict’s impact, stating, “This outcome not only brings closure to the Everett family but also sends a message that safety should be most important to companies like Shelby Concrete.”
Morris Haynes is committed to holding negligent corporations accountable and securing justice and compensation for our clients. We thank the jury for their verdict and stand with L.E.’s family to demand better from Alabama companies.
